In what has become an annual tradition, neighbours from across Quadra Village and the surrounding communities have been lighting up their jack-o-lanterns along the paths in Summit Park the day after Halloween for everyone to enjoy. The Summit Park Pumpkin Parade runs from 5:30-8:30pm on November 1st.
The leafless branches of the Garry Oaks in this protected ecosystem provide the perfect backdrop for this spooky fall event. A delightfully low-key event put on by local volunteers from Hillside-Quadra Collective and Alter Arts Society, the event also provides an opportunity for residents to ensure their pumpkins get a second life. Participants are invited to make a $2-5 donation to cover the cost of removing the pumpkins for composting.
This year attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite jack-o-lantern, and the winner will receive a prize pack donated by The Root Cellar.
Organizers have also teamed up with local favourites Theatre SKAM, whose pop-up theatre will be on site for two performances beginning at 7:30pm.
Those bringing a stroller or wagon to transport heavy pumpkins should use the Blackwood Street entrance at the south side of the park, and bring their pumpkins to the tower for placement.
